Lesson and Training Details & Info

Our lifeguard training program is a comprehensive certification course that combines online learning with in-person training. The course is designed to teach individuals ages 15 and older the skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses. Our training is conducted in accordance with the guidelines and protocols established by the American Red Cross, ensuring the highest level of competency and certification validity. In our program, your training begins at home where you'll watch online instructional videos by the American Red Cross covering essential lifeguarding topics including water rescue techniques, surveillance and scanning, emergency response, and more. Once you have completed your online learning, you will participate in two days of in-person training sessions (8 hours per day) at the pool. Our experienced instructors will guide you through various scenarios and provide practical demonstrations to reinforce the knowledge gained online. You will learn First Aid and CPR, including use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and how to handle spinal injuries. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive Lifeguarding and First Aid/CPR/AED certification valid for 2 years that is universally accepted for hire. Course Prerequisites: To participate in the lifeguard training program, students must be able to pass a prerequisite skills evaluation. The skills evaluation will be administered the first day of in-person training and includes the following: 1. Swim 300 yards (12 laps) continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swim goggles permitted. 2. Tread water for two minutes using only the legs. Hands should be placed under your armpits. 3. Complete the following within 100 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards with your face in or out of the water. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-lb object. Return to the surface and kick 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point. Keep both hands on the object. Swim goggles are not permitted. For your convenience, training can be scheduled at any American Red Cross approved facility of your choice.
